This piece was featured in my second exhibition at The Antiquarium in Houston. For this exhibition, I wanted to encourage viewers to see framing not simply as protection for artwork, but as an extension of the artwork itself.
A white mat and a gold leaf frame with subtle leaf detailing was chosen to gently echo the baroque painted ceiling in the room. The design is intentionally understated, allowing the photograph to remain the focus while the ornamental details quietly reflect the architecture.
Background: Inside Drottingholm Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage site, a statue is illuminated by natural light. Shot on Cinestill 400D, the film’s signature red glow illuminates the most important parts of her body: her outstretched finger, chest, forehead, and the book she carries. Traditionally a raised finger symbolizes divine power and a soul's ascent to heaven. The glow creates a spotlight on themes of divine strength and power (her finger), knowledge (the book), love (the heart), and higher consciousness (the forehead).
