This piece was featured in my second exhibition at The Antiquarium in Houston. For this exhibition, I wanted to encourage viewers to see framing not simply as protection for artwork, but as an extension of the artwork itself.
A light blue mat to match the tones of the ocean and a decorative rose gold frame with a scrolling vine pattern to echo the curves of the railing, the side of the building, and natural curve of the tree.
Background: Overlooking the coastline of Santa Margherita, this photo mixes a beautiful view with a very real moment. A bored lifeguard sits in his chair while a man by the pool scrolls on his phone. Their presence adds a funny, honest touch to an otherwise perfect scene, showing real life happening in the middle of a picture-perfect place.
